PRESS RELEASE:
Supervisor Doug Chaffee and North Orange County Law Enforcement Host Gun Buyback on October 22
Santa Ana, CA. (October 7, 2022) – Supervisor Doug Chaffee, Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors in partnership with the District Attorney, Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, Orange, and Placentia Police Departments today announced an Anonymous Gun Buyback program on October 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 166 East La Jolla Street, Placentia, CA 92870.
Participants can anonymously turn in unwanted guns at the drive-up event without showing I.D. and with “no questions asked”. Participants will need to:
- Transport their firearms unloaded in a bag, box or case, and place them in the trunk of their vehicle.
- Remain in their vehicle at all times and not touch any weapons.
- No walk ups will be allowed.
A police officer will remove the gun from the participant’s vehicle. If the trunk or rear hatch cannot be opened remotely by the driver, the driver will hand the officer the key and remain in their vehicle.
Participants will receive Amazon or gas gift cards for their firearms at the rate of $200 for each operable handgun, ghost gun, and rifle and $400 for each operable assault weapon brought back with a limit of 3 firearms per person.
“Our goal is to make Orange County safer, especially in light of rising gun violence,” said Supervisor Chaffee. “With this voluntary Gun Buyback initiative, we are reducing the number of unwanted guns in the community, which can prevent them from being stolen, used to harm someone or themselves.”
The Gun Buyback is funded by Supervisor Doug Chaffee’s Fourth District Discretionary Funding Grants. Partnering police departments will staff the event, collect, secure and dispose of all firearms brought to the event.
For more information about the event, please contact Placentia Police Department’s Lieutenant C. Anderson by phone at (714) 993-8156 or by email at canderson@placentia.org.
For media relations, please contact Placentia Police Department’s PIO Sergeant J. Connell at (714) 993-8153 or by email at jconnell@placentia.org.
